Every morning I wake up and let Riley outside while I make my coffee. This morning while I was pouring the water into the coffee maker I noticed Riley was staring at me through the window. Perfectly normal. Then when I finally filled up my mug I looked again and there he was, completely covered in snow, still staring. He has this kind of terrifying determination. I'm pretty sure he was a serial killer in a past life.

I'm kind of obsessed with this building fragment. I know there's probably a very logical and boring reason they're waiting so long to demolish it. I know that. Still. I'm probably going to be irrationally sad when it's gone. Demolition always makes me kind of sad, but not in a normal way, like in a sad for the buildings kind of way. I mean, when I was little (but not little enough to make it acceptable) I sobbed when my grandfather trimmed the hedges in my backyard. Analyze that.

UPDATE: Apparently there was a safe on the top floor! They had to wait until it was removed before they could demolish the last fragment. My entire life is validated now.

Sometimes Riley is the worst. Sometimes he barks in my face at 4am. Sometimes he gets into the garbage and tears everything into a million tiny pieces. Sometimes he gets out of the yard and he never comes when he's called. But then sometimes he follows a ball that got away from him down the entire length of a stream with ridiculous determination and I decide I'll keep him for a bit longer*.

*Not a half hour after I wrote this I was pinning Riley to the ground and shoving a syringe full of peroxide down his throat because he had gotten into something gross. Love.

I really, really, really like abandoned buildings. In fact, I like them so much I will pay money to spend the night in one. Only in America! This particular abandoned building is the Buffalo Central Terminal which was shut down in 1979, but everything was cleaned up pretty well so it wasn't as cool and decaying as I expected but I guess not dying of asbestos poisoning is just as cool.

I can safely say I have never been busier than I have been these past few months. Gig after gig, hours of editing, non-stop eye twitches, you get the idea. Lately my idea of a 'break' has been taking my laptop over to my friends so I could work while I listen to him play video games. I know, I'm spoiling myself. So today when I was dropping off a disc to a client and I realized my parking meter was good for another hour I decided to take an actual break and walk around downtown Syracuse. It was amazingly cathartic to shoot for no reason whatsoever. I also really love my city and I don't photograph it nearly enough.

That being said, I do believe the people of Syracuse should collectively sue me for making their city look so abandoned and dirty. My bad.

I drove up to the Adirondacks approximately eight million times this summer. It makes sense that the only things I photographed while I was up there were an abandoned antique shop, an abandoned bar and a bunch of shoes on a telephone wire. That's Amelia Beamish for you, always taking the most marketable photographs imaginable.

Every time I finish a shoot, before I pack up, I take some photos of my dog. He hops right up on the table and stays perfectly still until I tell him to jump off. He rarely looks this depressed but I think he noticed the backdrop's somber tone and adjusted his expression to match. Yep. It's totally that.

Accident on Rt. 173.

SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police and fire personnel responded to the Onondaga Hill area Tuesday after a logging truck ran out of control and damaged vehicles and a home in its path.

According to police and witnesses at the scene, around 4:15 p.m. a Native American Tree Landscape truck was driving down West Seneca Turnpike when it apparently lost its brakes while headed down the hill. Firefighters say the truck struck six vehicles along the 600 block before crashing into an Empire Transportation van at 603 West Seneca. The rear of the van was crushed, and the van itself was pushed into the front of a nearby house.

Police say three people were taken to area hospitals with what are being called non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of the crash, West Seneca Turnpike is closed to traffic between Broad Road and Valley Drive while emergency personnel work at the scene.

My friends and I did a speed run of Harborfest this weekend...

We listened to some Jonny Hirsch for about 2 minutes.

I ate a waffle sandwich (amazing) and watched some guy dance around for about 5 minutes.

The longest part of the day was walking, and my complaining about how I didn't own a boat.

We found the most adorable car! It was probably a third the size of the cars surrounding it.

I rode the tallest chair ride ever. It cost $6.25 but it was worth it.

Then we watched fireworks and joined the mass exodus out of Oswego.

Tonight I went to the midnight showing of the last ever Harry Potter film.

I pretended to be important and got people to pose for me.

I forced Peter to let me draw a scar on his forehead.

My 24th birthday was perfect. I love when I'm having so much fun that I don't even think to pick up my camera, which was for most of the day. That's the main reason all the photos start appearing near sunset. Not that I wasn't having fun when I took these photos. I just needed a break from eating ice cream. Where Gettysburg was charming and quaint Jamesville was weird and hickish. It seemed to be much more for the actors than anyone else. That being said there were significantly less attendees than actors so I guess that makes sense. I think the weirdest thing about the whole day was the gross amount of pro-Confederacy merchandise there was. Do they know they're performing this in New York? Do they know they lost?

My Mom, Grandma and I took a trip together. Just like old times...

The first afternoon we got in we wandered aimlessly through Gettysburg.

We went through the Jenny Wade house and then heard about her from literally everyone all week.

We took a beautiful 3.5 hour drive and saw a plethora of statues.

Finally, we hit a ton of antique shops, cemeteries, and museums. What else would we have done?

We drove through Intercourse, PA and I took an embarrassing amount of drive-by Amish photos.

We ate at a café that had a creepy cowboy, and a graveyard (with a very unfortunate sign) behind it.

We drove through Hershey and stopped just long enough to hear people enjoying themselves.

This weekend was a perfect microcosm of summer...

I went to Taste of Syracuse for the first time.

I bought some prints, a military foldable shovel and a portable projector screen at the Funky Flea.

I watched (and was oddly mesmerized by) some LARPing. Weird.

Although I didn't know any of the bands I saw a ton of outdoor concerts.

The only walking I did was to find a better place to sunbathe. It was perfection.

For someone who, just two weeks ago, was in the same room as newborn tiger cubs you'd think I wouldn't be such a geek when I saw a baby animal. Nope. On my drive home from Old Forge last night a fawn walked in front of my car. It was far enough ahead of me there was no risk in me hitting it but there was a high risk of me careening into the woods out of sheer excitement. Not only that but when I was taking photos of this one another came out of the woods! Perfection.

I keep buying Riley new tennis balls because he always sneaks them outside and gets them muddy so they can't come back in the house. Right now I think the count is somewhere in the twenties. That being said if any one of those balls fall out of reach he goes insane and needs that ball. Today I was sleepy and my throw was a little short and one fell in the pool. After about half an hour of trying to avoid the water he jumped in after it. It was a valiant effort though.

I took the Mannequin to NYC this weekend because... why not? I got so many great shots and hopefully I'll start posting them soon... every day at noon for a good solid month without any breaks. I couldn't have done it without moral (and muscle) support from Taylor and Carly.

People seemed to really like 'him'. A tour bus even stopped and said, "Now, if you'd look to your right..." and the guide had everyone stand up to take photos! The funniest thing is that out of all the people we saw everyone seemed to be have the same five or so comments: "Creepy.", "Who has the better half?!", "You didn't have to kill him!", "He's got it easy.", and "I thought that was a real man!"... without fail, the same comments. Except for one woman who shouted "What morbid monsters!" at us.

For the first time since leaving NYC I came back for a pseudo-non-work weekend...

I went to the Videogum show with Bri and we hung out, but all she did was talk to her cat.

I met up with Sara (for the third time this month!) and walked around Madison Square Park.

I spent the rest of the weekend with Carly and Taylor. They vied for my love, and fought, a lot.

Taylor made this face a lot.

He also did everything I told him. This was mostly "Put this on. Stand there."

Then my last shoot was cancelled so I rushed to get on the last train home.

Central New York weather was bumming me out, so I took a trip to Los Angeles...

When I landed Sara picked me up and we headed straight for In-N-Out Burger.

We drove around LA in our adorable Zipcar and tried our best not to get lost.

Every so often Sara would slam the brakes so we could fawn over how pretty LA was.

We hit up some tourist spots, like Griffith Observatory.

Then we checked out the characters at Grauman's Chinese Theatre

We both fell in love with Nick's Cafe.

Despite being made fun of by everyone we spent all day at Universal Studios,

I wandered aimlessly (sans Sara) around Echo Park and Downtown LA.

I took the bus out to Venice and walked along the beach to Santa Monica.

I went to Universal again, because I had a free ticket, and I sweat theme parks.

I rode the LA subway system. Pointless as it may be, it's beautiful.

Then I was off again.

I spent a lot of time at O'Hare, wandered around, drank beer and ate a ridiculous hot dog.

And once again boarded my coffin of an airplane that took me to Syracuse.

I have the worst behaved cats. The vet thinks it's because I left for college and abandoned them and now they're in a constant state of panic that I'll leave again, but I think they're just dicks. They're so bad that I have to lock them in the cellar every night, lest they tear my house to shreds. Recently one of my cats discovered a new entry (we've boarded off three already) to the cold air ducts and incase you haven't ever heard a fat cat pace around in your cold air ducts let me tell you it's a horrifying sound.

This was just a test shot to see if I could shoot inside the vent. I didn't even know she was in there until after. Horrifying.

I went upstairs to take a photo of all the snow in my backyard and the instant I opened the window both of my cats raced upstairs and out onto the roof. I got them back inside and then opened the top half of the window instead. That did not deter them. They pulled their fat little bodies up and over the window. For all that effort I thought they deserved to play on the roof.

It started as a way to show friends how OCD I looked in comparison to my messier roommate and when I moved to NYC I took them for my Mom because she always had to leave before I finished unpacking. One of my biggest regrets is that now that I'm an adult I'll never be called the wunderkind of anything. This is a legitimate regret I think about, a lot. Vain? You betcha! While these photos don't prove I was a child prodigy you do have to respect my use of rule of thirds. Not many parents would let their 6-year-old ruin roll after roll of film on blurry photos of their toys but I'm glad my Mom did.

I just got a new credit card and it's one of those kinds that you can choose your own photo for the design and so after much internal debate I chose a lemur. It's a fact that lemurs are the cutest animals in the world. I got to pet some once and one even latched onto me and started rubbing his nose on my shoes. Adorable.

I've been wanting to take a picture of Mr. Mannequin covered in ducks for a while but I figured with it being winter and all the duck pond would be kind of empty. Nope. I think we've all run into this situation at one time in our lives. Gabby took me to Gordie Harper's Bazaar for dinner because she knows my fondness for tacky art. The funny thing was how much stuff I recognized from my own childhood. I've mostly gotten it out of my system but when I was little I was totally obsessed with this crap. Now when I look through it I mostly wonder what the original artist was thinking when they made it. I wonder how many of them had aspirations of being a respected artist or how many of them were just bored and had a knack for sculpting animals in the shape of clocks and bottle holders.

She showed me the ruins of the old Union Station building.

We spent entirely too much time and money at Gordie Harper's Bazaar.
